JUAN ESTEBAN CONSTAÍN

 

Writer and intellectual, born in Popayán (Colombia). In 2004, he published, with Seix Barral, his first fiction book, ‘Los Mártires’. In 2007, he published his first novel, ‘The Sinking of the Empire’. In 2010 he published the novel ‘Calcio!’, with which he won the Spartacus Prize for Historical Novel of the Semana Negra in Gijón, Spain, and which was translated into Italian by Marco Tropea and into Polish by Rebis.

In 2014 he published the novel ‘El hombre que no fue Jueves’, winner of the ‘Biblioteca de Narrativa Colombiana de Eafit’ Prize and translated into Italian by Fazi and into Turkish by Cumartesi Kitapligi. He also published, in 2018, the book of essays ‘Ningún tiempo es pasado’, and in 2019 the book ‘Álvaro: his life and his century’, both published by Penguin Random House. Among his other works, both fiction and essay, the books ‘Cartas abiertas’, ‘Suertes mutisianas’ and ‘El hijo del hombre’ are notable. 

Researcher, lecturer, university professor, literary critic, analyst, media columnist and author of numerous texts and intellectual productions in different genres of writing, Constain is a reference in Colombian literature, as well as an author widely recognized internationally.
