Prose and poetry writer, and researcher on historical subjects, born in the city of Popayán (Colombia). Sociologist from the National University of Colombia. He is the author of novels, essays and poetry, as well as a columnist, lecturer and painter.

The importance of his work, recognized in several countries, includes more than twenty-five books, mainly historical novels. He is considered the most prolific author of this genre in Colombia and probably in Latin America.

Four times International Latino Book Award ILBA (International Latino Book Awards), in different categories: Best biography in 2009 (‘Bolívar: delirio y epopeya’), best historical novel in 2010 (‘Las penumbras del General: life and death of Francisco by Paula Santander’), best historical novel in 2011 (‘Between lace and chains: a story of slaves and lords’) and best historical book in 2012 (‘Francisco de Miranda: Dreamer of absolutes?’), all four books published by Villegas Editores (Bogotá, Colombia), Víctor Paz Otero was also a finalist for the Rómulo Gallegos Prize and nominated for the FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages ​​in 2016.

Honorary member and Medal of the Bolivarian Society of Colombia. His work appears in the Fall 2006 catalog, considered the most important in the world.
