PALOMA VALENCIA LASERNA

 

Candidate for President of the Republic of Colombia for the period 2026-2030, and Senator of the Republic of Colombia since 2014, Paloma Valencia is a renowned politician and lawyer, born in Popayán, graduated in Economics and Philosophy (University of Los Andes -Colombia), and in creative writing (University of New York – USA ). Descendant of two illustrious Colombian families: that of the great poet Guillermo Valencia and that of the eminent philosopher and mathematician Mario Laserna Pinzón.

She was a university professor at the Universidad de Los Andes, author of the book ‘Otras Culpas’, analyst for the newspapers El Espectador, El País, Diario del Huila, El Liberal, El Meridiano, among others, as well as for the newspaper El New Siglo. Opinion commentator and political analyst at the Blu Radio, radio station of the Caracol channel. Between 2011 and 2012, she was an opinion journalist on the radio program ‘The Hour of Truth’, led by former minister Fernando Londoño Hoyos. She is the founder and director of the political analysis site ‘La Otra Esquina’.

Throughout her distinguished career, she has been candidate for the Chamber-House of Representatives of Bogotá in the 2006 legislative elections, for the political movement ‘Alas Equipo Colombia’; Candidate for the presidential elections in 2018; member of the First Commission, the Human Rights Commission, the Peace Commission, President of the Instruction Commission of the Senate of the Republic and Senator of the Republic of Colombia since the legislative periods 2014-2018, 2018-2022 and 2022-2026.
